Here's a happy memory of a summer day up at the Point.
Thirty years ago, protesters faced off with 700 police, army and the government over plans to develop Ngati Whatua ancestral land at Bastion Point. This month on May 25, 2008 the protagonists will again meet to mark the 30th anniversary of that day in 1978 when 222 people were arrested in a massive show of force that has been called a defining moment in New Zealand history. This blog is to share the stories and memories of that event with everyone.
